With only 505 examples produced, the 365 GTC/4 was developed by Ferrari to satisfy the overwhelming demand for a 4-passenger performance automobile. Launched in March 1971, the “C4” replaced the 365 GTC, whose production run ended in 1969. The low, sleek bodyline was designed using the help of Pininfarina’s wind tunnel, which incorporated both style and function into the “C4”. Its engine, a 320 horsepower 4.4L V-12 engine with 6 Weber side-draft carburetors accompanied by a 5-speed manual transmission, was largely based on that of the Daytona’s, except by way of using side-draft carburation in the “C4”, Ferrari was able to streamline the front-end even further. The 365 GTC/4’s chassis was also similar to the Daytona, however stretched nearly 4 inches to accommodate additional passengers. The body panels of the 365GTC/4 are completely unique to the model, not carried over from a previous model, or recycled into a future one. With the help of modern comforts such as air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, pneumatic self-leveling rear suspension, the “C4” was widely considered to be the best driving Ferrari of the era. As per our research, this 365 GTC/4 was first sold by Ayache, the Ferrari importer for Lebanon, to a client in Switzerland. The first record of this Ferrari in the US is from 1990, when the car was advertised for sale on the Ferrari Market Letter(FML). The car was described as being equipped with air-conditioning, to be finished in black over tan, and to be fully restored. The car was listed again in the FML in 2002 and 2003. In those ads, the C4 was described as having brand new Borrani wire wheels, and having won Gold at a Ferrari Club event, scoring 93 points. In 2009, Wide World Ferrari in New Jersey was commissioned to go over the car mechanically. The end result was an engine out service, main bearing replacement, engine reseal, set the cam timing, adjust valve shims, replacement of auxiliary belts, lubrication service, bled brake system, check all lines and connections, flush and bled coolant system, and more. At the same time a new exhaust system was installed, the front and rear suspension were completely rebuilt, as well as the front and rear brake systems, and the installation of new motor and radiator mounts. A little over $28,000 were spent to ensure that this Ferrari could drive and perform as it was always meant to do. Today this car still shows and perform wonderfully. With only about 400 miles driven since 2009, we just performed a comprehensive annual service. In addition, we have reupholstered the dash, center console, rear shelf and A pillars with the correct “mouse hair” from HVL Netherlands, and properly refinished the front and rear bumpers. Finally the car just received an 18-hour show quality detail, and is now ready to be driven, and to be seen. Tools, jack, and Ferrari manual accompany this car.
