For Sale in Auctions America Auburn Indiana on 9/1/2013 for $175,000.00
Described As:
Sold for $189,750 4,390-cc, 320-hp, DOHC V-12 engine, five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension with unequal-length A-arms, coil springs, hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars and four-wheel disc brakes with brake force booster. Wheelbase: 98.4-inches Ferrari phased out the 365 GTC in 1969, leaving the company without a luxury two-seat coupe in its lineup. Daytona production was progressing, but its Berlinetta characteristics did not satisfy those Ferrari clients in need of a more luxurious grand touring car. Pininfarina and Ferrari stepped into the fray, launching the 365 GTC/4 in March 1971. The 365 GTC/4 was developed to meet the ever-growing demand among Ferrari’s clientele for high performance automobiles with accommodations for up to four passengers. Its chassis was essentially that of a Daytona, stretched 100-millimeters with a five-speed transmission mounted more conventionally: directly to the engine. The C/4 borrowed the 2+2’s oleo-pneumatic self-leveling rear suspension, presumably to accommodate its owner’s luggage. One very important benefit of the 100-millimeter wheelbase stretch was increased room for taller drivers, a welcome change from the Daytona. Luxuriously equipped, the 365 GTC/4 also came with ZF power steering, a radio, and most also had air conditioning. Pininfarina’s design for the 365 GTC/4 was executed in steel, with pop-up headlights and a low, oval grille. The hood sloped gradually back from the grille to the windshield base, a low profile facilitated by the substitution of the Daytona’s 40 DCN 20 downdrafts with six side-draft Weber carburetors. Finished in the desirable and factory correct color combination of Blu Ortis with a beige leather interior this example benefits from a fresh restoration and is offered in excellent condition. Complete with the correct mousehair dash, console and rear shelf as well as a Becker Mexico radio this example will also sport the correct Cromodora alloy wheels shod in brand new Michelin XWX’s at the time of the sale. Reportedly in excellent running and driving condition; this example shows just under 40,000 kilometers which are believed to be original. As prices in the Ferrari market continue to rise, this freshly restored example presents a great opportunity for the discerning collector to acquire a V-12 Ferrari before they become the next model to cross the quarter million dollar mark.

Specifications: 4390 cc light alloy 60 degree V-12 engine, dual overhead camshafts each bank, six Weber twin-choke 38 DCOE side-draft carburetors, five-speed manual transmission, independent front and rear suspension, ZF limited slip differential, four wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 98.5”

In March 1971, a new Ferrari ‘Deluxe Tourer’ was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The new model was the 365 GTC/4 and as usual for Ferrari , designed by Pininfarina. The car clearly showed its descent from the very popular and powerful Daytona Berlinetta, but had none of the competition aspirations that applied to that car. The design principle was for a true touring car, intended for the sportsman that wanted a better ride and more amenities and space.

PininFarina and Ferrari met the challenge and gave the GTC a new chassis based on a stretched Daytona platform. This removed the expensive transaxle and allowed the gearbox to be mounted conventionally which was thought to be prudent as the car was clearly designed for the U.S. market. The mechanical specification was essentially that of the Daytona but modified to meet the new U.S. emission controls. To leave the center of the V open for emissions equipment, the manifolds for the six Weber side-draft carburetors were incorporated into the exhaust cam covers. The fuel mixture was fed from the top of the head rather than the side which made the engine lower and wider and helped reduce the hood height.

Bodywork was executed in steel with pop-up headlights and a low, narrow oval grille which incorporated fog lights and turn flashers surrounded by a black polyurethane ‘bumper’ which met the U.S. low-speed crash requirements. The interior appointments were designed to give real comfort for the discerning driver with leather trim and options for cloth or sheepskin inserts, deep pile carpets, and a large central console and control panel. This was matched with air conditioning, power windows, power brakes, and ZF power steering, the latter making this heavy car much easier to drive than the Daytona.

Until the last five years or so, the different look of the 365 GTC/4 styling has set it aside from the attention of mainstream collectors and recognition for this great V-12 Italian GT has come slowly over the years. For Ferrari it was another sales success, and it took just two full production years to sell the 500 units deemed sufficient before the car was replaced and superseded by the 2+2 version with updated wedge-type styling. For the American enthusiast the GTC represents one of the last of the breed – a true front-engine V-12 Ferrari with its own style, and it is as usable and practical today as it was in period.

This 1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4, serial #16025, is finished in the desirable and period-correct color combination of Blu Ortis over a Beige leather interior with deviated Blue carpeting. Both the exterior and interior, including the mousehair dash, console, and rear shelf, are in superb condition thanks to a recent restoration. A correct Becker Mexico radio is fitted as well as a set of Borrani wire wheels shod with fresh Michelin XWX tires. The odometer currently reads 39,905 miles which is believed to be original.

Constructed at Pininfarina during the early part of 1972, 365GTC/4 chassis no. 16025 received final assembly at Ferrari that summer. The new Coupe was finished in the same livery it sports today, the elegant Blu Ortis over a beige Connolly interior. 16025 was destined for the Italian home market, and delivered to its first owner, a Mr. Cecchini, through the official Ferrari agent in Prato near Florence, Garage La Rotunda. Like many Ferraris from this era, 16025 was later exported to the US, where by the mid-1980s it was owned by a Mr. John R. Musumeci of Belle Harbor, New York.

By 2012, the 365GTC/4 had made its way south to Florida, where it was acquired by the current owner. Today, 16025 presents beautifully inside and out. Many detail items have recently been expertly refurbished for an excellent cosmetic presentation, and a recent engine-out service has been performed. Presented with classic Borrani wire wheels shod in Michelin XWX tires, the Ferrari looks like a true Grand Touring car representative of its era. A period Becker Mexico radio is installed, giving the interior an equally correct and tasteful appearance. Offered with this handsome Ferrari are tools, a jack, and Marcel Massini's history report. Undoubtedly a great choice to enjoy on tours, rallies, or the show circuit, 16025 is a wonderful example of the classic and striking 365GTC/4.
